NBA All Star Days

Seeing as how this month of February is Black History Month -- Isn't  it time  for the NBA to consider changing their league logo of all these years from a very white Jerry West to a  more  African-American profile which, obviously, is much more reflective of  the current NBA. "Not that there's anything wrong with Jerry West..." Let's have Magic or Michael in motion. I vote for Magic, who I still think is the greatest player ever...

Out There

The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas. A place other Kansans call "out there." Truman Capote, In Cold Blood. The greatness of the book and the fine Philip Seymour Hoffman film. I had to go out there, the film Capote the first look at what it was like to have him ,of all people, out there. Too bad that he didn't write his own observations of himself , or Harper Lee, who accompanied him...Notorious, the other Capote out there wasn't much up against Capote. Sandra Bullock as Harper Lee? As for me, headlights shining down the long drive between the Chinese elms hat led to the Clutter home, Dick & Perry right there at my back...

The Doors

I never knew, having listened to them for so long -- their American brilliance, maybe always leaving them in some box of dream- scapes. But, a band capable of anything American. I don't think I ever listened to an album  straight across, always the top of the charters -- and too much hash to remember. But what a collection : take Indian Summer for instance. I guess I knew, but a Song of Hiawatha -- from perhaps America's most important album - right after The Band of course, but right there after it - Morrison Hotel. And they were getting better: I give you L.A. Woman. I'm most proud that I came to them later on, so much so that I had to do the Badlands of Dakota with them. "The west is the best/Get here/And we'll do the rest..."
